CDS is only hard when you are not prepared well when you have not practised enough or regularly.
Some basic myths you need to get rid of before you start preparing for CDS:
- You cannot rely on a few books and think that you will clear the exam by only reading them (eg: pathfinder, etc)
- Make sure you do not ignore your school basics. they are important as they provide the knowledge that helps you build your foundation.
- Don’t think that what worked for others will also work for you \. You need to remember that people can tell you many ways to learn things but what works for you, is only known to you.
- there are no secret tips to “CRACK” CDS in the first attempt as many might tell you, you need to work hard and smart and let your hard work speak for itself.
Some things to keep in mind while preparing for CDS:
Even though these tips below are some basic tips everyone can put to use for their CDS exam, I believe everyone has a different personality and cannot work on their preparation in one particular way.
But here are some basic tips you can keep in mind while preparing for both CDS:
For CDS written examination:
- Carry out a regular timed practice for objective English, objective mathematics and objective general knowledge, general science, history/geography /current affairs
- CDS is an exam that judges you on your knowledge of maths, English and General Knowledge. So make sure you are thoroughly prepared to answer all types of questions under these categories.
- Make sure you attempt previous years papers to have a thorough knowledge of what type of questions might be thrown at you.
- FOR MATHS:
- You must read the science and maths portion of 10th, 11th and 12th to clear the CDS exam. It is very important for clearing the maths section of the exam.
FOR YOUR GENERAL KNOWLEDGE SECTION:
- You should make a note of being up to date with the events happening in our Country, it's Neighbours and all around the world as it is very important to be aware of the national as well as the international situation.
- For a better understanding country and the world develop an outstanding knowledge of Physical and Political Maps of Own country and Rest of world.
- Listening to the news every day in the Morning /Evening on DD News/RSTV News/ LSTV and BBC is very important.
- As per your liking subscribe to at least one Magazine per month like Pratiyogita Darpan/ Dristi / Competition Master/CSR/any other magazine.
- One must try to participate in Cultural Activities involving Current Affairs like Group Discussion/Extempore Speech/Debates at College/School level.
- Inculcate the habit of reading the newspaper daily. For that Subscribe to at least one English Newspaper like Hindu /The Times of India/Indian Express/The Tribune.
FOR ENGLISH:
- The regular reading of newspaper articles, magazines , etc will improve your vocabulary and English together.
- Revise all the concepts of grammar and update the vocabulary sections. The students should devote more time to weak sections in the Paper.
- The participation of an individual in GD’s, Extempore speech, debates helps develop confidence in the language and helps improve fluency.
